Après Ski in the Canadian Rockies

Source: Travel Alberta

Want to know what tops off a perfect day of skiing in the Canadian Rockies? Food, fun, hot springs and friends. Whether you are on a ski holiday in Jasper or just out for the day to ski one of the Banff resorts, why rush to the hotel or highway when après ski activities await?

This may sound funny, but we never go skiing in Banff National Park without packing our swimsuits. After a stellar day on black diamond trails, the promise of a soak in the thermal mineral waters of Banff Upper Hot Springs sooths the body and the soul. On other days, the chatter on the chairlift is all about grabbing a bite or a pint in the restaurants in Banff, Lake Louise or Canmore.

Dining at its Peak, Après Ski
When we look for a lingering meal to boast and brag about epic tracks left in the powder at any of the Banff-Lake Louise ski hills, we’ll usually head straight to Lake Louise Station for an Alberta AAA steak. But sometimes it’s a coin toss. Will it be The Maple Leaf Grill in Banff for a juicy bison tenderloin? Or Crazyweed in Canmore for their famous Sticky 5 Spice Spare Ribs? Or will we just walk through the first door that sends out succulent aromas?

Pub Grub or Sundeck
Most days we are looking to whet our whistle with easy pub food, cool drinks and room to exaggerate the day’s exploits. A stroll down main street Banff will find us many favourites.

Wild Bill’s is a great saloon packed with friendly faces from down the street or across the pond. Somehow we find energy to kick up our heels to the live music well into the night. Down the block and upstairs is the Banff Ave Brewing Company where I love trying their latest ale with an order of poutine. If we’re spring skiing in Jasper, we’ll delay leaving Marmot Basin; there’s a corner on the Kokanee Glacier Deck where we finish the day soaking in the sun. Many a fine meal can be had down in Jasper townsite.

Teens in Tow
If the hungry teens are in tow, the car knows to stop at the Rocky Mountain Flatbread Company in Canmore. The pizza is so healthy – but don’t tell the kids that or they’ll want double the time in Welch’s Candy Store in Banff.
