THINGS TO DO:

Festivals & Special Events

Albertans' love of the outdoors is equalled only by their love of a good gathering, which means plenty of outdoor festivities. Our capital city of Edmonton is so famous for festivals it's known across Canada as the Festival City - and no wonder, with more than 60 to choose from throughout the year. Most well known are the Edmonton Folk Fest, the International Fringe Theatre Festival.

One of our most special events is the much-beloved Calgary Stampede. For more than 100 years, visitors from near and far have come to immerse themselves in our western culture and heritage. This ten-day whoop up is rightfully known as the Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth.

Be sure to step out around the province and catch some great live music at local folk, blues, jazz and country festivals. In the Canadian Rockies catch the Canmore Folk Festival, the longest running in Alberta. The Banff Summer Arts Festival offers months and months of entertainment. Near Edmonton, the Big Valley Jamboree is the biggest country music festival on the continent.

OUR VISITORS SAY:

"Big Valley Jamboree is without a doubt the best outdoor country music festival in the universe - 85,000 fans can't be wrong!" ~ B. Winslow, Arizona
