The rugged terrain of the Rockies can be effectively tackled with the use of an All Terrain Vehicle (ATV), or Off-Highway Vehicle (OHV). From the trails of Kakwa Wildland Park near Grande Cache, riders can view caribou, elk, bighorn sheep, mountain goats, deer, grizzly and black bears, wolves and fox.
The North Ram and Eagle Lake Trails in the Kiska/Willson Forest Land Use Zone (FLUZ), which covers more than 1,000 square kilometres of land near Nordegg are open throughout the summer. Camping is also permitted where posted.
Undeveloped trails lead through Alberta’s foothills near the Red Deer River Provincial Recreation Area (PRA), and recreation companies such as Mountain Aire Lodge offer several amenities for long-term stays.
