This alpine gem in Waterton Lakes National Park sits at the end of the Akamina Parkway. The winding mountain road starts in the townsite and runs for 16 km (10 mi) before reaching at the lakeshore. Visitors can rent canoes, rowboats or paddleboats to get out on the water, and there is a day-use area with interpretive exhibits. A trail that follows the lake’s western shore for 1.6 km (1 mi) offers a relaxing stroll and the chance to spot wildlife. Another easy trail from the parking lot leads to Akamina Lake. Those who want a more invigorating hike have several options to choose from along the Akamina Parkway. The Carthew-Alderson Trail leads up through a series of switchbacks to Summit Lake. Enjoy the views of Cameron Lake below you and of the Continental Divide across the valley. Be sure to watch for moose, which frequent the area.
