A summer’s day or weekend spent at Wizard Lake is sure to be a magical time. The central Alberta lake is 68 km (42 mi) from Edmonton, but it’s a world away from the hustle and bustle of city life. The surrounding valley shelters the lake from breezes, making it a popular spot for water-skiing, canoeing and kayaking. There’s also good fishing and, of course, swimmers can enjoy the water, too. Wizard Jubilee Park is the perfect place to stay in the area, The campground is open from late May to early September. It offers RV and tenting sites as well as hiking trails, a swimming area, boat launch and showers. The campground is gated in the evenings for security. Those looking for cushier accommodations can find them in the nearby town of Calmar, which has a variety of shops—be sure to visit the bakery—where you can stock up on supplies.
