The Edmonton International Fringe Theatre Festival is the largest and longest-running Fringe Theatre Festival in North America, ranking among the top five worldwide alongside the Adelaide Fringe in Australia and the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in Scotland. Dedicated to fostering creative connections between the community and the arts, the festival provides a platform for the unconventional and out-of-the-ordinary. With more than 200 ticketed theatre productions, a free Music Series, vibrant licensed patios, captivating outdoor Street Artists, and a dedicated KidsFringe festival for children 12 and under, the event offers something for everyone. Food and Artisan vendors further enhance the experience, ensuring that "fringing" remains accessible and inclusive. Condé Nast Traveler describes the festival as a must-visit destination, whether for seasoned attendees or first-time visitors. Additionally, Lonely Planet recognized the festival as the #1 Highlight in its Best Cities to Travel to in 2025 feature, while the Edmonton Tourism Awards named it the 2024 Festival of the Year.
