Get a new perspective on the central Alberta landscape courtesy of the friendly adventurers at Air-ristorcrat Balloons. The Red Deer-based company offers hot air balloon rides seven days a week from May to October. Flights take place in the morning and must be booked in advance. The cost is $325 per person. Air-ristocrat also offers tether rides. The balloon ascends but remains tethered to the ground. The experience lasts about an hour and can accommodate four passengers. Tether rides are available for special events, as are walk-in balloons. The latter is when a balloon is tied to the ground at both ends, then cold-inflated. This lets people walk inside the balloon and see how it’s put together. Air-ristocrat Balloons flys Western Canada’s only accessible balloon. It also offers training programs for those who take a flight and get bitten by the hot air balloon bug.
