Banff Ave Brewing Co. was founded in 2010, five years after the opening of its sister brewpub in Jasper. “The brewpub” truly has become a beer-culture hotbed and a central hub for locals and tourists alike. Childhood friends Brett Ireland, Socrates Korogonas, and Alex Derksen have always shared a passion for food and beer. All three had extensive experience in the food and beverage business in Jasper, Alberta. So it was natural that they launch their first brewpub in this mountain town. Taking their inspiration from the town’s own unique beer culture, they opened the Jasper Brewing Company in 2005. This marked the first brewpub in a Canadian national park. From there, the passion grew. In 2010, they opened their second brewpub, Banff Avenue Brewing in Banff. By then it was clear they were on to something. They formed the umbrella company of Bearhill Brewing Company in 2012. Expansion continued with the opening of Wood Buffalo Brewing in Fort McMurray in 2013. Finally, Last Best Brewing and Distillery opened its doors in Calgary in the summer of 2014.
