It’s no surprise that a campground with the word “nugget” in its name is a real gem. Black Nugget Lake Campground is 89 km (54 mi) southeast of Edmonton in Beaver County. It’s a peaceful escape on land once home to a coal mine, which explains the name. The campground has 90 sites (serviced and unserviced). It accommodates tents and RVs in well-treed waterfront and group sites. There are flush toilets and showers. A concession near the campground entrance sells staples and firewood. Black Nugget Lake teems with trout and draws eager anglers to its shores. It’s also an excellent spot for paddling, hiking and birdwatching. The day-use area is ideal for picnics or just relaxing amid nature. The new Coal Creek Golf Resort is next door, so bring your clubs. Black Nugget Lake Campground is pet friendly. A minimum two-day stay is required for reservations.
