Canyon Creek Campground and Harbour sits on the shore of Lesser Slave Lake. Sure, it’s smaller than Great Slave Lake, but there isn’t too much “less” about it. It’s the second-largest lake located entirely within Alberta. It’s also home to one of the top 10 beaches in Canada. Canyon Creek Campground & Harbour puts all this within easy reach. You’ll find it 23 km (14 mi) west of the town of Slave Lake. There are 53 sites with power and 15 that are unserviced. The marina has room for 27 boats. The list of amenities at Canyon Creek is nearly endless. The convenience store has all the camping staples, plus freshly brewed coffee, fishing bait, tackle and firewood. It also hosts horseshoe and cornhole tournaments, plus a monthly pancake breakfast. Campers will also find a sandy beach, playground, public-use barbecues and a fish-cleaning station. Canyon Creek Campground & Harbour is open from mid-May to mid-September. Reservations are a must.
