Carson-Pegasus Provincial Park is one of Alberta’s most popular trout fishing spots. The greenery on land is superb, with mixedwood forests of aspen, balsam poplar, balsam fir and white spruce. The shores are lined with willow and alder. You’ll also find black spruce bogs, sedge and grass marshes, and fens—and all of the bird species that make their homes here. With all this nature and wildlife, the Carson-Pegasus Campground is a great spot to set up camp and enjoy all the activities. Fish from the seawall, or jump in your boat, canoe or kayak to find your fishing spot. (You can rent a boat and get tackle at the shop.) Off the water, there’s plenty of hiking and biking on the intertwining campground trails, a playground and a beach. The Carson-Pegasus Campground has almost 200 sites, both with and without power. To get here, drive 27 km (17 mi) north of Whitecourt.
