Chestermere Lake, located 21 km (13 mi) east of Calgary, is a unique spot for all-season activities in nature, surrounded by urban conveniences. In the summer, feel the wind in your hair on your wakeboard, waterskis or tubes. Power yourself around in a canoe, kayak, sailboat or paddleboat. The entire shoreline is within the city of Chestermere, so it's easy to access rental shops and other amenities. You'll also find several boat launches and designated swimming areas throughout the lake. In the winter, lace up your skates and glide from one end to the other — if you go both ways, you’ll skate 9.6 km (6 mi). Or bring your snowmobile and complete the loop several times with a little less effort. The lake was built for irrigation purposes in the 1880s but is now a vibrant and beautiful destination for water activities, including fishing. Be sure to get a fishing license before you cast for Northern Pike and Yellow Perch.
