At Crimson Lake Provincial Park, three natural regions — boreal forest, foothills, and parkland — converge. While bogs and fens cover much of the park; sand dunes and sand plains cover most of the rest. In the south of the park, you’ll see features more typical of the boreal forest, such as black spruce bogs and tamarack-swamp birch fens. The fecund park is ideal for wildlife watching and birding. Scan the forests for moose and deer and keep your eyes on the skies — or down by the water — to spot birds like sandhill cranes, solitary sandpipers, and northern pygmy owls. The park is also a destination for a wide range of outdoor sports in both summer and winter, such as powerboating, ice-fishing, hiking, and cross-country skiing.
