Canada’s first interprovincial park sits in southeastern Alberta and straddles the border with Saskatchewan. It’s an area rich in history, wildlife and things to do, 66 km (20 mi) southeast of Medicine Hat. The park attracts birders and outdoor adventurers. The forests and hills are home to some 220 species of birds. They are also where you’ll find hiking and mountain-biking trails that deliver thrills and spectacular views. In winter, there’s downhill and cross-country skiing, snowshsoeing, skating and fat biking. The town of Elkwater serves as a hub for the park. It’s home to campgrounds, hotels and the shops that will keep you well-stocked with essentials. It’s also the site of Elkwater Lake, which is popular with boaters, paddlers, anglers, and those who want to swim before relaxing on the sandy beach. Elkwater also has a disc golf course, free mini-golf and an information centre to help guide your adventures.
