This 22-kilometre trail within Lesser Slave Lake Provincial Park is part of the Trans Canada Trail. A historical travel route used by Indigenous Peoples and Klondikers, the Freighter Lakeshore Trail follows the eastern shoreline of Lesser Slave Lake and can be accessed from Devonshire Beach, North Shore Day Use Area, the Boreal Centre for Bird Conservation, Lesser Slave Lake Bird Observatory, and Marten River Campground. The trail gives hikers and cyclists fantastic views of the lake and the surrounding boreal forest. Excellent wildlife viewing opportunities abound on this portion of Canada’s longest continuous recreational trail.
