The Galt Historic Railway Park, established in 2005, preserves and interprets the rich history of southern Alberta's “steam & coal” eras, with a focus on the Galt Railway and the 1890 International Train Station Depot North West Territories from Coutts, AB / Sweetgrass, MT. From 1890 to 1916, this one-of-a-kind train station straddled the Canada–US border, making it a rare and historic architectural gem in Western Canada. Costumed historical interpreters offer engaging tours of the station, sharing its fascinating history. Visitors can also explore a restored railway baggage car converted into a school car, as well as other adjacent railway cars, including a wooden caboose and stock car. On special event days, the Great Canadian Plains Railway Society hosts enhanced experiences, including combined station tours and rides on a restored railway motorcar along a hand-built track. The park provides a captivating journey into the past, showcasing the impact of railways on the development of the region.
