Like goats themselves, this trail appears friendlier than it is. Goat Lake Trail feels like a walk in the park for the first four kilometres until the elevation changes abruptly. You’ll find yourself struggling for breath as you gain 1,750 feet in elevation in just over three kilometres. Fortunately, the challenging zigzag up the mountain leads you across gurgling streams, unexpected wildflowers, and the odd mountain goat, and the view at the top is memorable. At the end of this 14-km hike, you’ll reach a lake full of Cutthroat Trout, making it a great spot to pull out the fishing tackle — and catch your breath.
