Heart River Dam Provincial Recreation Area

In 1950, a dam was built across the South Heart River. Its purpose was to divert water into Winagami Lake to stabilize it. The dam site itself became the Heart River Dam Provincial Recreation Area. This Provincial Recreation Area offers a rustic camping experience with four first-come, first-served campsites. A day-use area is also provided southeast of the campground. Access the reservoir with your canoe, kayak, or small powered boat using the handboat launch. Fish in the many small bays and coves, or explore the adjacent Winagami Wildland Provincial Park. Bald eagles and many waterfowl use the area so it’s a great spot for birdwatchers, as well.
