This fascinating site sits on a ridge high above the town of Cochrane. It commands impressive views that encompass the foothills and Rocky Mountains. The Historic Cochrane Ranche also gives viewers visitors insight into Indigenous culture and Western history. This was Alberta’s first large-scale ranch, operating from 1881 to 1888. It was later sold and was the site of two brickyards from 1898 to 1919. Today, there's something for everyone. History buffs will be drawn to the museum, reconstructed coral coal and archeological finds from the manager’s house, bunkhouse, blacksmith shop and other spots on the site. The Historic Cochrane Ranche sits on 136 acres, so there’s plenty of room to wander. You’ll also find picnic sites with fire pits, an outdoor stage that hosts concerts and community events and the famous Men of Vision statue. There are family-friendly mountain biking trails for those who want to add a little physical activity to the mental stimulation offered by the museum.
