Johnston Canyon Campground puts you in the heart of the action at one of Banff National Park’s most popular attractions. The campground is 25 km (15 mi) from the Banff townsite and has 132 sites suitable for smaller RVs and tents. The drive to Johnston Creek Campground along Hwy 1A offers great scenery, and the views that await are equally stunning. The campground is the perfect base to explore Johnston Canyon. Hit the well-maintained trail to get a closer look at the rushing water that carved the canyon out of the surrounding rock. The canyon is also one of the few places in Banff National Park where the endangered black swift nests. These birds can often be seen swooping and soaring above the canyon. The trail continues up past the falls to the Ink Pots, intensely coloured pools of water that dot the landscape.
