There are a few things to know about Kinosoo Beach. First, Canadian Geographic magazine named it one of the top 25 beaches in the country. Second, it takes its name from the kinosoo, a legendary big fish said to haunt its depths. While that last bit is likely not true, the first one is. Kinosoo Beach is a highlight of a visit to Cold Lake. Visitors can stroll the sandy beach, soak up the sun or join a game of beach volleyball. There’s also a splash park, playground and concession stand—even a zip line that travels over the water so you can let go for a refreshing plunge. The grandstand hosts summer concerts and celebrations. If you’re lucky, the northern lights continue the entertainment after the sun sets. Those who want to get out on the water should visit Wicked Water Sports to rent kayaks, paddle boards and other equipment. And, while the whole kinosoo thing is likely overstated, Cold Lake is one of Alberta’s largest and deepest lakes, making it a paradise for anglers.
