Visitors to the Canadian Badlands would do well to make the Last Chance Saloon one of their first stops. The saloon is attached to the Rosedeer Hotel in the Village of Wayne, 16 km (10 mi) southeast of Drumheller. Wayne was once a thriving coal-mining town that, at its height, had a population of 3,000. Today, just a handful of citizens call it home. The Last Chance Saloon opened in 1913. Today, it serves up liquid refreshment and local history. It’s a great place to grab a bite (kids are welcome) and get your bearings. The saloon is the only structure remaining from the mining days and is stuffed with memorabilia and photos. Spend the night at the Rosedeer Hotel or book a camping spot and soak in the otherwordly surroundings.
