The Multicultural Heritage Centre in Stony Plain is a living museum that reflects local history, Western Canadian pioneer life and more. The Centre is comprised of two historic buildings, the Old Brick School built in 1925 and the Oppertshauser House built in 1910. The Multicultural Heritage Centre Public Art Gallery is located on the main floor is the only public art gallery located in rural Alberta. Through regularly changing exhibits the gallery promotes local and Alberta artists. Guided mural tours of Stony Plain’s 36 life-sized murals celebrating the area’s heritage are also offered. Experienced tour guides share anecdotes, stories and historical information about the renowned murals and places of historic interest on a leisurely stroll, bus or horse and wagon ride. After your tour, indulge in a hearty home-cooked meal at the on-site restaurant. And, be sure to leave room for dessert as their famous pies will not disappoint.
