Rochon Sands Provincial Park, located on Buffalo Lake in central Alberta, is the perfect campground for everything water — swimming, boating, windsurfing, canoeing and fishing. And where there’s water, there’s wildlife. The shallow bays at Rochon Sands Provincial Park make it a superb destination for birdwatchers. You’ll find nesting sites for great blue herons, black-crowned night herons, Canada geese, ducks, common terns, American avocets and ring-billed gulls. Lucky birders may also see Ross’s geese, American white pelicans and piping plovers. Other species include northern orioles, western wood-pewee, great horned and short-eared owls — even golden and bald eagles. Off the water, families can hike, frolic in the playground and pop into the nearby village of Rochon to enjoy an ice cream. Rochon Sands Provincial Park is 29 km (18 mi) northwest of Stettler.
