Rosebud Theatre brings the lights of Broadway to rural Alberta. This cultural gem annually draws some 35,000 visitors to the town of Rosebud (population: 100), 35 km (22 mi) south of Drumheller. The theatre was founded in 1983 and presents five professional theatre productions annually. The 232-seat Opera House, a converted grain elevator, is the main venue. In addition to the resident company, students from the Rosebud School of the Arts take on roles in the productions and gain valuable professional experience. RSA students also present concerts to round out the offerings. Patrons should leave time to visit Rosebud Mercantile, where they can enjoy a meal before the show. They should also be sure to visit one of the many galleries and gift stores in town. In fact, it might be wise to book a room in a bed and breakfast and stay for the weekend.
