Don’t be shocked if you hear voices and think you see people walking the streets when you tour Rowley Ghost Town. The little village just south of Drumheller is still home to 12 people. It’s true that is a far cry from the 500 people who called Rowley home in the 1920s, but current residents like to call it a “historical village” rather than “ghost town.” The residents are proud of their village and maintain the properties, which include a garage, church, bank, store, saloon, community hall and three grain elevators. Most of these properties are also owned by residents, so it’s important to explore with that in mind. The community hosts a pizza night open to the public on the last Saturday of the month. Tours are available in the summer, giving visitors the chance to see some of the buildings and their artifacts and antiques.
