Sir Winston Churchill Provincial Park is Alberta’s only campable island park, making it a haven for paddling, beach days, birding, fishing, and boating. You’ll enter the park via a narrow causeway for a panoramic view of Lac La Biche. An old-growth forest covers Big Island, where you’ll find campsites and a general store where the locals come for ice cream. Hiking trails, including an accessible trail and boardwalk, wind through 300-year-old birch trees. On Long Island, cabin and tipi comfort-camping sites are a few steps from the lake. The cabins and tipis have full kitchens, beds, and bathrooms—just bring your food and bedding. Kayak, canoe, and SUP rentals are available on both islands. Be sure to check on programming at the park while you’re visiting for guided nature walks, boardwalk yoga, and Indigenous cultural experiences including crafts, bannock-making, and storytelling.
