This campground in the Saddle Hills region of northwest Alberta is the perfect mix of seclusion and convenience. It’s not hard to get to as it sits 89 km (55 mi) northwest of Grande Prairie. The journey is mostly on paved roads, but the last 6 km (3.5) are on an oilfield road that can be a bit bumpy and muddy. Still, the trip is well worth it. When they arrive, campers find 66 campsites tucked into a forest that offers privacy and a natural canopy. The lake is stocked with rainbow and brook trout, making it a popular fishing spot. Non-motorized watercraft are allowed on the lake, so the area attracts paddle-boarders, kayakers and canoers. Spring Lake Campground has fire pits, outhouses, picnic tables and free firewood. The campground is open from May to September (reservations are recommended). The day-use area is open year-round for those who want to try ice fishing, cross-country skiing or snowshoeing.
