Building on the knowledge of their Dutch ancestors, the sixth-generation cheesemakers at Sylvan Star Farms have earned a lofty reputation for their Gouda. They have won numerous awards, including top spot for their Gouda, extra aged Gouda and smoked Gouda. The secret is not so secret. It’s all about hard work, mastering old techniques and using top-notch ingredients. The cheesemakers keep a close eye on size, colour and taste. You can visit the farm store to see the operation in action—and to taste a range of cheeses to find your new favourite. The store is open Monday to Saturday and is about 8 km (5 mi) east of Sylvan Lake. Sylvan Star Cheese can also be found in stores around the province.
