The Great Divide Trail traverses the continental divide between Alberta and British Columbia, wandering through the vast wilderness of the Canadian Rocky Mountains for more than 1100 kilometres. It is one of the planet's most spectacular and challenging long‐distance trails. The Great Divide Trail is not officially designated and is not always even an actual trail. Sometimes it’s merely a wilderness route, inspiring modern-day adventurers to walk the same paths as the Indigenous people and early explorers to the area. The most adventurous can take on the challenge of completing the Great Divide Trail from end to end. However, seven sections of the trail have been identified for shorter trips, and the trail coincides with several established backpacking trails in the national and provincial parks along its route. A journey on the Great Divide Trail, either in its entirety or as a section, promises to be demanding, but on the GDT you’ll discover a definitive wilderness experience in one of the most magnificent settings on earth. Visit the Great Divide Trail Association website for information and trip-planning resources. With your support, the Great Divide Trail Association can continue to preserve the Great Divide Trail and the wilderness experience it offers for generations to come.
