Victoria Settlement brings the history of late 19th-century Alberta to life with costumed interpreters, historic buildings, and interactive tours. At the site of the Hudson’s Bay Company’s Fort Victoria, where the company traded with local indigenous people, learn about the fur trade, missionary activity, and early European settlement. Take a guided tour to learn what life was like for those who lived here from 1862 to 1922. Then, book the Victoria Trail Voyageur Experience to spend a day exploring the fur trade era. After a tour of Metis Crossing, you’ll paddle the North Saskatchewan River in a large voyageur canoe to Victoria Settlement (watch for beavers!). At the fort, practice portaging fur trader-style with a pack secured around your forehead before reading historical letters and continue your journey to learn what it was like to raise a family at Fort Victoria while keeping up with the Victorian fashions of 1864.
