The Calgary Zoo is home to more than 900 animals, representing more than 120 species from five continents. On any given day, these residents are joined by hundreds of human visitors who come to explore the exhibits, enjoy the playgrounds and relax over lunch or a cold treat. Each visit also helps protect endangered animals, both at the zoo and in the wild. The Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo is operated by the Calgary Zoological Society and recognized internationally as one of the top zoos in the world for conservation research. The 48-hectare (120-acre) zoo is organized by zones: Wild Canada, Destination Africa, Exploration India, Penguin Plunge, Dorothy Harvie Botanical Gardens and ENMAX Conservatory (including the butterfly garden), Eurasia and Prehistoric Park with its animatronic dinosaurs. Wagons are available to rent to help families navigate the park.
