Frequently Asked Questions
National and provincial park campgrounds generally open Victoria Day long weekend in May and close Labour Day weekend in September. Some stay open until late October. There are select winter camping options in Alberta as well.
Alberta features public and private campgrounds across the entire province. In our National and Provincial Parks you will find book-ahead as well as first-come-first-served options. You can expect walk-in tenting sites, drive-up tenting sites, powered RV sites and more, plus fully equipped glamping options. Our park systems also offer various backcountry options for the adventurous. Private campgrounds are easily booked as well, with options all over the province to meet any need from tents to RVs to fully equipped cabins, dome tents and more.
Provincial campsites fees range from $8 to $31 CAD, depending on the type of site you want. There is a daily entry fee to national parks, plus the cost of your campsite, which varies based on the campground. Private campgrounds set their own rates. Contact your preferred private campground for complete details.
In both our Provincial and National Parks you will find a mix of reservable and first-come-first-served sites. Reservations for campgrounds in Alberta parks fill up quickly, so we highly recommend booking ahead. Provincial campground reservations can be made 90 days in advance for individual and backcountry camping, and 180 days in advance for group and comfort camping options. National Parkshave their own reservation system, opening dates and booking windows.
Our Provincial and National Parks offer first-come-first-served options at certain campgrounds. It can also sometimes be beneficial to check a day or two ahead of your stay, as cancellations do happen and reservable sites may become available.
