Starship Enterprise Replica
Vulcan, Alberta is a place on Earth, not a planet in the iconic Star Trek universe, but you can't miss a photo op with the town's Starship FX6-1995-A, a replica of the Starship Enterprise. And what's that behind it? Not a landed space station—it's Vulcan's Star Trek-themed tourist centre.
TIP FROM A LOCAL
Landing in Vulcan after dark? No worries, the starship is well-lit.
World's Largest Dinosaur
Famous for the Royal Tyrrell Museum and its extensive collection of fossils, Drumheller (aka the dinosaur capital of the world) is also home to Tyra, the World's Largest Dinosaur. She's four-and-a-half times the size of a real T-Rex, and you can stand inside her mouth for a great photo op.
TIP FROM A LOCAL
Dinosaur hunting with kids (or dogs)? Cool down at the splash park right across from Tyra.
World's Largest Golf Tee
Just under an hour from Drumheller is Trochu, where you can see the World's Largest Golf Tee. It towers over the Trochu Golf & Country Club at 12 m (39.4 ft) high. Get in nine holes while you're there and have lunch at the clubhouse.
World's Largest Fishing Lure
The World's Largest Fishing Lure in Lacombe measures 8.5 m (27.9 ft) long—with a 4.2 m (13.8 ft) treble hook to complete its gigantic proportions. Certified by Guinness World Records in 2019, it was commissioned by the Thompson-Pallister Bait Company. Look for their signature red and yellow diamond pattern on the spoon.
World's Largest Oil Lamp
Make time for a visit to the town of Donalda. Here you'll find the World's Largest Oil Lamp, open during museum hours and lit at dusk every evening. 12.8 m (42 ft) high, it celebrates the Donalda & District Museum's historic collection of more than 900 kerosene lamps—some dating back to the 1600s.
TIP FROM A LOCAL
End your day with a stop at Donalda Tavern. Get the steak—or one of the tavern's hearty daily specials.
